Florida’s privately owned Brightline high-speed rail service,  is preparing to extend its popular Orlando–Miami route westward to Tampa along the Interstate 4 corridor.

Brightline Florida is submitting a request to borrow $400 million via public bonds to design, develop, and construct the Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Tampa extension  . The Florida Development Finance Corporation (FDFC) has scheduled a public hearing on Thursday, July 17 at 2 p.m. (call‑in: 833‑928‑4609; Meeting ID: 856 4507 6824; Passcode: 358411) .

  • Faster travel times: The projected trip from Orlando to downtown Tampa will take about 1 hour by train, nearly half the typical driving time on I‑4  .

  • Economic boost: Central Florida economist Dr. Sean Snaith described the new link as “an important addition to the transportation network in Central Florida”  .

  • Rider enthusiasm: Travelers at MCO were hopeful. Giovana Furquim said, “Absolutely yes, it’s a perfect idea… I would use it.” Another passenger agreed, “If I lived here… I’d use it all the time, I love Tampa” .
